| At Lake Washington Christian
Church, we are actively involved in many areas of community outreach.
We are most active in the following organizations:
Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing (KITH)
Kirkland Interfaith Network (KIN)
Habitat for Humanity
Community Supper
Greater Kirkland Ecumenical Parish (GKEP)
Disciples Mission Fund
KITH
Kirkland Interfaith Transitions
in Housing works with individuals and families facing
homelessness. KITH uses creative approaches to help people secure safe
housing while they work on goals which will re-establish their ability to
determine their own lives. KITH also maintains 16 units of permanent low
income housing in Salisbury Court and Kingsgate. This agency helps, on
average, 100 families a month and is grateful for all the support given by
area churches.

KIN
Kirkland Interfaith Network
is an association of eight Kirkland churches for the purpose of promoting
social justice. KIN sponsored events include:
KIN Back to School Project - August - collection of school clothing
and school supplies for distribution to Kirkland families so that every
child knows the community values education without regard to economic
status.
Hunger Awareness Day - September - a food collection drive
outside the doors of Kirkland grocery stores. Benefits go to HopeLink's
Kirkland Food Bank.
KIN Holiday Fair - November - a place to shop for the holidays in
ways that support global justice. Give a gift that spreads the joy of the
season to recipients and the wider community at the same time.
Thanksgiving Baskets - November - Donations of food for
Thanksgiving Baskets distributed through the food bank.
Spring CROP Walk - June - a community effort to raise funds
to fight hunger internationally and locally through Church World Service and
other related organizations. This is KIN 20th Anniversary sponsoring Crop
Walk. We want this one to be extra special and are hoping to collect $20,000
in donations for the event.
Marc & Lorna Forgey represent LWCC at KIN. Contact the Church office for
more information.

Habitat for Humanity
In 1999, LWCC joined with five other Kirkland churches to form the KINFolk
Project to build two Habitat Homes (a duplex) as part of the Coal Creek
Terrace Project. The Coal Creek project is now complete and there are
pictures on the East King County Habitat Site.
Although LWCC is not currently involved in the funding and planning aspects
of another project (yet!), we continue to provide volunteers for the other
builds that are currently taking place. You can find a project that
interests you by contacting

Community Supper
KITH sponsors a Community Supper each Tuesday evening at Holy Spirit
Lutheran Church. Tutoring assistance, including English as a second
language, is also offered in association with the supper. LWCC provides,
prepares, and serves the meal six times a year. Help out in the community by
volunteering to prepare or serve food to those in need.
Contact the Church office for more information.

GKEP
The Greater Kirkland Ecumenical
Parish consists of seven churches in the Kirkland area. These
churches pray for one another, share a pulpit exchange together to promote
better understanding of our diverse Christian community and provide some
program areas together. A council meets monthly to share programs and
information.
GKEP churches are: Holy Family Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Lutheran
Church, Kirkland Congregational Church, Lake Washington Christian Church,
Lake Washington United Methodist Church, St. John's Episcopal Church, and
Trinity Lutheran Church.

Disciples Mission Fund
Formerly known as Basic Mission Finance,
Disciples Mission Fund (DMF) is our
denominational outreach arm. Each month our congregation sends funding
to support our mission work as a denomination. DMF funds support
things such as our Benevolent Homes, Church World Service, Higher Education,
Homeland Ministries, and our Mission Workers throughout the world.
In addition to our regular church contributions, individuals also get a
chance to directly support some of our work abroad through the four Special
Day offerings taken on Pentecost, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
A booklet in the Narthex explains the various ministries we support
through DMF.
