We believe we are stewards,
caretakers of the many gifts God has given. So much has been entrusted to
us, this glorious creation and its resources, our varied abilities, time and
energy to use them, work to do, financial resources, family, friends…! We
give thanks for these gifts and use them with care. We choose to invest our
time, talent, and treasure in ways that will make a creative difference. We
serve in many ways in both church and community. When it comes to financial
giving, we strive to bring to God our “first fruits,” a carefully considered
proportion of our income. For many, the tithe (one- tenth) is the standard
for such giving. Here are some brief descriptions of our congregation’s
funding system.
General Fund: This fund is the "operating budget" for our
congregation. This is made up of all undesignated offerings we receive at
our Sunday worship, money raised at our annual fund-raiser, and fees
received for church use. The General Fund pays for the day to day ministry
of LWCC: utilities, maintenance, salaries, fees, licenses, educational
materials, hospitality for special occasions and fellowship activities, and
numerous other aspects of ongoing church life.
Capital Fund: This fund is currently used to pay our mortgage.
Many established congregations who have paid off a mortgage use this fund
for major repair or renovation of the physical campus or facility (roof,
equipment replacement, sound system, carpeting, furnishings, etc...). We are
in the midst of a 2-year campaign to pay down the mortgage, and have a
reserve for other critical needs. To contribute to the capital fund, simply
write "Capital" on your donation.
Kirkpatrick/Webster Fund: This fund provides scholarships for
young people to attend church camp, and participate in other youth
activities such as youth choir trips, regional and general activities. It is
LWCC's only "permanent fund,” thus only the interest is used; the principal
in the fund is not touched. This fund is named in honor of Hewit Kirkpatrick
and George & Rose Webster. To contribute to the Kirkpatrick/Webster fund,
simply write "K/W" on your donation. Another way to donate to this fund is
by using an Albertsons card when you shop. Albertsons will donate 2% of your
purchase to the fund. Pick up your card at church.
Outreach through Special Day Offerings: Over and above our usual
general fund offerings, and the pledges to the Capital Fund, Disciples
congregations support general (i.e. "whole-church") ministries through
receiving special offerings 6 times a year. These Special Day Offerings are
designated for specific ministry goals of the Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ). To contribute to the Special Day offerings, simply use the special
envelopes provided or write "special" on your donation. These offerings are:
EASTER -- received 2 Sundays in March or April this offering
helps general ministries of the church, who engage in mission on behalf
of all Disciples to promote God’s good news to a hurting world. The
general ministries coordinate our mission efforts in ways we could not
express one congregation at a time. Gifts to support these ministries
are vital to our worldwide mission.
PENTECOST -- received 2 Sundays in May or June for new church
development, divided equally between the region in which the offering is
received and general new church ministry.
THANKSGIVING -- received 2 Sundays in November for Disciples
higher education institutions who are responsible for the theological
education of our church's leaders.
CHRISTMAS -- received 2 Sundays in December for regional
ministries in the region where the funds are contributed for
implementation of the church's imperative: "To strengthen congregational
life."
WEEK OF COMPASSION -- received 2 Sundays in February for
outreach ministries to assist during times of natural or human disaster.
Through partnerships with Church World Service, Action by Churches
Together, Heifer Project International, the Disciples' Overseas
Ministries, and hundreds of local church partners around the world, Week
of Compassion responds to disaster somewhere an average of every two
days.
RECONCILIATION -- received 2 Sundays in September or October
for general and regional ministries that seek to fulfill our mission to
be an anti-racist/pro-reconciliation denomination. In addition to
supporting these various ministries financially, our congregation also
engages in hands on work with local outreach ministries such as: Food
Lifeline, Tent City, Kairos Prison Ministry, Kirkland Interfaith
Transitional Housing, Kirkland Interfaith Network, and Greater Kirkland
Ecumenical Parrish.
Wish List: From time to time we
experience specific needs in the life of the church. The wish list is an
opportunity to give to provide for a specific item or area of ministry as
you feel led. Here are some current needs in the life of Lake Washington
Christian Church. Anytime someone would like to give to a specific need all
you need to do is designate that on your check.
- Special Occasion Worship Bulletins: World Communion Sunday,
Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc...$8.25/100.
- Advent Devotional Booklets

We celebrate the generosity of all those who contribute so generously
with financial resources, time commitments, talents and abilities. If you
